Valentino Rossi Signs with Petronas Yamaha MotoGP

Italian supporters of MotoGP didn’t want to see their champion driver depart from the sport, with rumours suggesting that Valentino Rossi could retire at his older age. The 41-Year-Old confirmed on September 26th that he’s signed with Petronas Yamaha MotoGP. His newly formed contract will sustain one year, meaning that Valentino Rossi’s retirement isn’t likely to come until the 2021 MotoGP Campaign has finished.

What shocked the MotoGP community with this contract signing is that Yamaha is providing Valentino Rossi with a full-factory motorcycle, which has never been done before with a satellite team. It shows the dedication & trust that Yamaha has over Valentino Rossi, their greatest racer to date.

When questioned on the signing agreement, Valentino Rossi indicated that he’d thought extensively about continuing in MotoGP before putting pen to paper. Rossi pointed out that to dominate in MotoGP, it requires daily training & a dedicated athlete’s lifestyle. Valentino believes he can sustain this lifestyle for another year. However, at nearly 42 Years of Age, his time for retirement is coming shortly & Valentino can’t ignore the ageing facts.

Yamaha Factory Team has disposed of Rossi onto their secondary outfit, selecting Fabio Quartararo for 1st seat placement. This means that Quartararo and Rossi are switching direct seats, with Fabio competing alongside Maverick Vinales. This will give Quartararo plenty of challenges throughout the 2021 MotoGP Campaign, and either driver could live-up to the Rossie Legacy.

The Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, Lin Jarvis, clarified that their delighted Valentino Rossi is continuing to compete in MotoGP. Yamaha’s Managing Director emphasized that supporters of the motorsport will feel similarly and that it marks the end of an iconic era. Rossi competed with Factory Yamaha Team for fifteen seasons, with his career sustaining twenty-five seasons. 2021 will celebrate his 26th & likely final. It’ll mark the longest MotoGP driver in history.

Statements from Lin Jarvis clarified that they’d guaranteed Valentino Rossi a Factory YZR-M1 if he’d move to the satellite team. It was also promised that he’d be given full support & always remain part of the Factory Yamaha Team.
